Themadag Czech That!

Czech That! presents three great Czech masters: Leoš Janáček, Bohuslav Martinů and Erwin Schulhoff. The 1920s saw all three at the height of their creative powers: Janáček finding new energy in his sixties back at home in Brno, Martinů in his thirties in bustling, vibrant Paris, and Schulhoff writing prolifically in his twenties as the clouds were darkening over Germany. Janáček was the truest to his Bohemian roots of the three, Martinů liked to add a dash of jazz, and Schulhoff was not at all averse to a couple generous helpings of modernism.

Czech That! is in honour of Festival 20·21’s 30th birthday. After the evening concert, everyone is cordially invited to a festive reception in the lobby of the Schouwburg.
