Charles Ives at 150: what his music means for us

Charles Ives

No one knows more about the trailblazing American composer Charles Ives than professor emeritus Peter Burkholder, who has devoted practically his entire life to Ives.

A few years ago he published the wonderful and accessible book Listening to Charles Ives. Variations on His America. Burkholder’s lecture has the same aim as the book: to persuade people to listen to Ives, possibly the most original and radical composer in all of music history. With Ives, if it isn’t a consonance it’s a collision. But of course, when things collide is when energy is released. We highly recommend this golden opportunity!
