Brodsky Quartet

After Shostakovich’s swan song in the morning’s concert, Britten’s version will have a turn. In his String Quartet no. 3, the Englishman walks serenely away from life, even accompanied at the end by quotations from his last opera, Death in Venice.

Britten’s sobre farewell is a stark contrast with two tormented String Quartets by Shostakovich – dramatic and powerful pieces pieces whose plots can only be created in your own imagination.
