In Folklore for strings and keys an abstract universal world is constructed that is not bound by time or place. A map leads us past sites where human activity is expressed in sound: the energy of moving, inherent to particular actions and places – the Playground, the Bar, the Cemetery, the Country, the Water, the Nation, etc.

The focus is on what is universally human and the shared feelings in a community, the things held in common, and not on its diversity.

Elements used to construct this abstract world are field recordings, folklorist puzzle pieces (a random collection from all over the world), musical spaces, a piano and a harpsichord (inside and outside).

All is in a set designed by artist Geert van Oorlé. [Heleen Van Haegenborgh]
