In this programme, Krzysztof Penderecki, known mainly for his monumental works, shows himself to be a master of chamber music as well.

Instrument by instrument the musicians build up to his masterful clarinet quartet, now in a version with the Russian accordion or bayan. Penderecki himself gave An Raskin permission to make this unusual arrangement.

Penderecki is also the starting point of an essay (commissioned by Festival 20/21) by Alicja Gescinska. The central question is: can music help to elevate the human morality, or is it only a bandage on the wound that is continually being torn open again by the evil in the world?
