Die Schöne Müllerin
Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin is a diary of a heartbreak, about a young man whose unrequited love hurls him back and forth between false hope and fatal insight.
Schubert explores the depths of the many uncertainties in human passion, distilling them into twenty songs. Although nearly 200 years old, there is not a single emotion in it that we can’t recognize today. Die schöne Müllerin is one of the greatest classics of the art-song genre and at least as good as Schubert’s even-more-famous Winterreise!
Keyboard artist Jos van Immerseel and baritone Thomas E. Bauer are both acclaimed Schubert interpreters. Several years ago they made quite an impression with their recording of his Winterreise, and now they’re taking on Schubert’s other great song cycle.
